Art Shines Bright in Punta del Este: A Contemporary Visual Journey

In the corridor stretching from La Barra to José Ignacio in Punta del Este, the art scene is experiencing an unprecedented boom. The return of many Argentinians and cooler early January temperatures have led visitors to explore numerous art events beyond the traditional beach activities. This transformation began in 2009 with Norwegian collectors Carrie and Alexander Vik inaugurating Estancia Vik, a hotel featuring suites designed by Uruguayan artists. They expanded with Playa Vik, showcasing works by renowned figures like Pablo Atchugarry and Zaha Hadid. In 2020, collector Amalia Amoedo established the Fundación Ama Amoedo Residencia Artística (Faara) in José Ignacio, further enriching the local art landscape. These developments have turned the once-quiet fishing village into a vibrant hub reminiscent of Miami during Art Basel, offering a plethora of contemporary visual experiences.
